London Eye to Notre Dame

I’m cycling the Avenue Verte London to Paris bike ride over May half term…why? I’m still trying to work that out myself but don’t worry I’m not asking for any money.

There will be 7 of us in our party; 1 almost pro cyclist, 1 JOGLE veteran, 1 cyclist with balance issues (the last time I rode I ended up in an ambulance) & 3 children of varying abilities.

We plan to cycle the route, (self guided) over 8 days and enjoy an active holiday(?) on a budget.

Avenue Verte

Avenue Verte is a largely traffic-free cycle route that links London Eye to Notre Dame via the Newhaven/Dieppe crossing.

This is a new development that was put in place in time for the 2012 London Olympics …although I can’t say I was aware of many mainland Europeans popping over to the Olympic Stadium on their bikes.

Avenue Verte; How Far?

A question I’ve asked myself a number of times and still can’t quite believe it’s 250 miles…and that’s not taking account of the crossing!

Someone recently suggested the use of a pedalo for the crossing but that’s plain silly.

Avenue Verte; Practicalities

We’ve booked budget accommodation along the route although I cannot take any credit for the arrangements as my main pre-trip aim has been to remain upright on a bike, (so far so good).

We’ve opted for trailers attached to the back of a couple of the bikes to carry our worldly goods. I must say it is large enough for a middle age lady if things really get too much.

We’ll be averaging around 30 miles & 2 cake shops a day.

If I can manage to blog, (it’s not the internet connection I’m worried about), I’ll be looking to update along the way.
