The High Line Walkway in New York
For those looking for free things to do in New York City you’ve probable come across the FREE Staten Island Ferry but one of our favourite options is the High Line. This latest New York attraction offers some spectacular views of New York City and the good news is that it remains free of charge. We popped along recently to try it out & were impressed with this latest NYC attraction.

The High Line; What Is It?
The High Line is an aerial walkway through the heart of New York offering a new perspective on the city. Don’t get me wrong, you’re not going to see the Empire State Building or the New York skyline from this view point, but you are going to see bustling New York at it’s best and even better it’s FREE!
This is New York from an unusual angle where this public pathway has been built upon an abandoned freight rail line in the old meatpacking district of the city. The High Line runs from Gansevoort Street, (old meatpacking district) to W34th Street, between 10th & 11th Avenue that now runs as far north as 34th Street for 1.45 miles.
There are plenty of access points onto the High Line, (a number of entry points provide lift access for wheelchair users), with toilet facilities now available too.
The High Line; Worth A Visit?
Step above the crowds and make use of this unusual vantage point on The High Line that juxtaposes traditional New York architecture with modern artwork to give the viewer a new perspective on the city.
Whatever you do, remember to pack the camera as there are fantastic opportunities to catch New York at it’s best. For families with younger children, there are plenty of nooks & crannies to explore & climb around. Check out the moving sunbeds, (using the original freight rails underneath), clamber up & down the view points, search for the freight track or simply give the children a camera & let them explore You’ll be amazed with the results.
