Eiffel Tower; New Glass Floor
August 2nd, 2017New Glass Floor at the Eiffel Tower
We’ve been along to check out the recent £24 million refurbishment programme completed at the Eiffel Tower. This face-lift on the first level comes with a new glass floor offering something different for visitors that dare. Located some 57 meters above ground, the new glass flooring can be found on the first level of the Eiffel Tower. As you wander around, you will see four distinct glass floor areas that you are free to step & even walk upon. Whilst this is not one for the faint-hearted, there is certainly an appeal to feeling suspended in air over the centre of Paris.
Follow our Guide to the Eiffel Towers packed with cheap ticket options plus tips to beat the queues!
Eiffel Tower Glass Floor
Alongside the glass floor, the old safety fencing has been replaced with wall to ceiling glass safety panels that incline outwards to accentuate your experience. We found ourselves torn between admiring the views of Paris & looking downwards at the crowds waiting to join us up the Eiffel Tower.
Whilst this refurbishment was undertaken to encourage visitors to linger a little longer on the first level before heading up higher for the better views, it may also encourage those who have already experienced the delights of the Eiffel Tower to return again!
Top Tips for the Eiffel Tower
1. If you are looking to save money and beat the queues, consider taking the stairs to the first, (& second) level of the Eiffel Tower. If you want to go all the way to the top, you can purchase an additional ticket from the second level that still works out cheaper.
2. The new glass floors are perfect for selfies; stand, sit or even lie on the glass panelling and snap away!
3. Check out the Studio Gustave Eiffel Film, (located on the first level), that provides an interesting image based exploration of the Eiffel Tower through the ages.
4. If you are looking for a view of Paris that has the Eiffel Tower in it, check out the Montparnasse Tower that offers both shorter queues & plenty of ticket deals.
