Greenwich Foot Tunnel
Running from Greenwich to the Isle of Dogs, the Greenwich Foot Tunnel allows visitors to go under the River Thames for FREE. Access to the Greenwich side of the tunnel is located close to the Cutty Sark; simply look out for the distinctive dome building where you will start your descent, (see image above). As you access the building you can either opt for the lift, (although these can be temperamental) or start your descent down the helical staircase that includes 100 steps each side. Worth noting that the lift has it’s own twitter account @GreenwichLift that advises on whether the lift(s) are running on any given day.
370 metres in length, this cast-iron tunnel runs 15.2 deep and is decked out with 200,000 white glazed tiles that are worth a visit.
