The River Thames Cable Cars, (Emirates Air Line)
The Emirates Air Line, also known as the Thames Cable Cars, offers a birds eye view of the River Thames & surrounding area. The cable cars offer an alternative view of London away from the main tourist throng that allows you to enjoy Budget Views over London at a fraction of the price of other London attractions.
The Emirates Air Line runs between the Greenwich Peninsula & the London Royal Docks. Reaching a height of 90 metres above the Thames, you can take in views of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Stadium, Canary Wharf, the Thames Barrier, the Cutty Sark & the O2 Arena. This 1.1km journey across the river takes approximately 10 minutes each way during off peak times with tickets reasonably priced.

Emirates Air Line; Tips & Tricks
1. Travelcards & Oyster Cards; discounts are available for Oyster card & travelcard holders.
2. Purchase a return ticket or enjoy a single ride journey that you can combine with a trip on the Thames Clipper commuter boat or the Docklands Light Railway. For the Clipper, disembark at the North Greenwich Pier and take a short walk to the Emirates Greenwich Peninsula Terminal.
3. Docklands Light Railway; when alighting the cable cars at the Royal Docks, you have the option of returning by train via the DLR, (Docklands Light Railway). Look out for the DLR Royal Victoria stop that is located opposite the Royal Docks Terminal.
4. Avoid Commuter Times; whilst this isn’t a busy commuter route, good to know that off-peak times offer a slower journey time!
5. Plan Ahead; might seem like common sense but opt for a day with good visibility to get the most from your visit.
6. Audio tours; are now available within the cable cars or simply download the Emirates Air Line app for further information.
7. Night Tours; try a cable car night tour & see London aglow – this can be particularly worthwhile if you have other evening plans in the area.

The Emirates Air Line offers a different perspective over the River Thames at a fraction of the price of other London attractions. Granted you won’t pick up views of some of the main tourist sights in London, but you will explore the gritty end of the city by alternative means.
