Battersea Power Station; Aqua Class With A View

Battersea Power Station is now firmly on the map as a visitor destination following a recent £9 billion refurbishment programme.

This Grade II listed building offers a fantastic backdrop over the city that should be on any itinerary to London. One option to enjoy the views is by taking Lift 109 to the viewing platform to the top. However, we’ve come across an alternative that combines a rooftop infinity pool with a fitness class that overlooks the power station’s iconic chimneys. Here’s a chance to enjoy an aqua class, from a stunning rooftop pool, that sits directly across from the power station; all for just £25pp.

How did we do it? Read on & find out – it may well give you some moneysaving ideas your next visit to London.

Art’otel Battersea; Rooftop Infinity Pool

Having undergone a radical transformation, Battersea Power Station is now a destination hub for shopping, dining & leisure facilities

Sitting directly across from the power station is Art’otel Battersea; a high-end luxury hotel that comes with a matching price-tag. Their pièce de résistance has to be their rooftop infinity pool and jacuzzi that overlooks the power station’s iconic chimneys. Although the infinity pool is billed as exclusive space for hotel guests, there is another way to enjoy the space without spending a fortune.

Not many people realise that you can simply sign up for an aqua class that takes place within this rooftop pool.  Running each Monday & Tuesday morning, this aqua aerobics class combines a fitness routine with a spectacular back-drop over the power station.  The good news is you don’t have to be staying at the hotel to make use of this class nor is there any commitment to sign up for a series of classes. You can merely book a one-off aqua aerobics class to enjoy this space whilst you work out.

Battersea Power Station; Aqua Aerobics at Art’otel

The aqua aerobics classes run at the Art’otel Battersea most Monday & Tuesday mornings. You can either join an 8am class that seemingly offers a relatively quieter experience or take a later class at 9am. We opted for an early start and were rewarded by being the first in the pool. What a great opportunity to get some photos for our socials before getting a soaking from the workout!

There’s a slightly convoluted arrangement to gain access to the pool for those not staying at the hotel. Upon arrival at the main reception, you’ll be provided with a robe and assisted with the lift down to the lower floor to use the changing rooms. You can make use of the lockers & towels available before heading back to the reception area. Staff will then assist you with the lift up to the 16th floor where you’ll find the rooftop pool. Again, you’ll need to do this in reverse after the class although guests staying at the hotel can simply use their lift access pass.

Priced at just £25pp, that includes a coffee & pastry, this aqua class offers you a cost effective method to enjoy these luxurious surroundings. Find out our thoughts below we we popped along recently to test out the class.

Battersea Power Station; Aqua Class With A View

As you emerge on the 16th floor, it’s worth taking some time to enjoy panoramic views over the city. It’s one of those ‘pinch-me’ moments as you immerse yourself within this heated, rooftop infinity pool surrounded by spectacular views over London. With the iconic power station chimneys directly in front of you, you can span 360 degrees to take in views as far away as Wembley Stadium. We firmly believe that engaging with your surroundings to earn your view gives you the best rewards. You will not be disappointed.

With our last experience of aqua aerobics being some 20+ years ago, we were initially apprehensive about the workout. The instructor quickly put us at ease, offering us routines to suit all levels of fitness. With a class size of 8, including a sprightly 86 year old, we were quickly undertaking a sequence of simple exercises interspersed with rest breaks. Doing star jumps in the water, whilst looking out over this spectacular backdrop, certainly got our Monday morning off to a fine start. This punchy 45-minute class allowed some remaining time to lie back & relax before the next class commenced.

Priced at just £25pp, entry includes access to the aqua aerobic class and a free breakfast.  Once you’ve completed your workout & finished getting changed, head to the Tozi Counter Cafe on the ground floor to grab a free coffee and a pastry.  I’m not sure whether you’ll be calories up or down by the end the morning as the pastries are both large & delicious.

What we can all agree on, is that it works out fantastic value for money for a view over London – we’ll definitely be back!
