London View on a Budget; One New Change
June 22nd, 2025Whether you are looking to compliment a visit to the The London Eye or opting for a stand-alone for those on a reduced budget, the roof terrace at One New Change is one to consider. Here’s a chance to pick up an alternative perspective over London’s skyline with exceptional views across to neighbouring St Paul’s Cathedral. One New Change has recently re-opened following a period of redevelopment but we were concerned to learn that this previously free entry attraction has now introduced charges on selected peak days of the year. It was also of note that we were unable to locate this change on their website and, although there is mention of outdoor events, there is no information regarding which days charges were being introduced.
Find our more details below on what we found on our recent attempted visit to One New Change.
One New Change; Roof Terrace
Located directly across from St Paul’s Cathedral, the roof terrace at One New Change takes in views across London and quickly became a popular destination for those on a budget. Previously the roof terrace at One New Change was a FREE attraction offering the public access to the London skyline without having to fork out on costly admission charges. For those seeking out Views of London On A Budget this roof terrace firmly sat within our recommendations for those visiting London. Following a period of renovation, the roof terrace at One New Change recently re-opened so we planned a visit on 21 June 2025 to see for ourselves the changes that had been made.
Having checked their website prior to our visit to ensure they hadn’t introduced a new admission procedure, I was then surprised to learn on the day from staff located at the entry point, that they had introduced a charge of £20pp. We were advised that as there was an event taking place a charge were currently in place. When pressed I learnt that during unspecified peak times of the year, including dates in which events were being introduced, this charge would remain in place. My understanding was that free entry would now be reduced to off-peak dates, (again unspecified). I did point out that this information was not available on the website making if impossible to understand which days now incurred a charge and which days continued with free entry. We decided to try our luck on another day.
Over the years, there have been a number of construction projects undertaken in London that have offered the general public free access to London’s skyline. Popular settings such as The Sky Garden, Horizon 22 & The Lookout sit alongside lesser known attractions including The Post Building Roof Terrace to offer an array of options for those seeking free views over London. What is noticeable is that we are starting to see a number of paid events being introduced at settings such as the roof terrace at One New change and Summer Events at Horizon 22 that are seemingly eroding the free entry offer. Lets hope that visitors to London don’t start to find the this myriad of free access spaces offering views over London becomes ever-harder to achieve.
One New Change; Roof Terrace
Dubbed as one of London’s newer shopping destinations when it opened back in 2010, One New Change is located on the road linking Cannon Street with Cheapside. With a range of stores set over 3 floors & an impressive dining experience on the top floor, it is the stunning Roof Terrace that is of particular interest to us. Here’s a chance to enjoy a unique perspective of St Paul’s Cathedral as well as great views over the roof tops to London’s skyline. Even better news was that One New Change has a public roof terrace that was originally free for everyone to appreciate the view, regardless of whether they were dining or shopping at the venue.
Before making for the lift to take you up to the top, be sure to have taken in the breathtaking view from the ground floor of St Paul’s Cathedral. With mirrored glass on both sides of the building, the view of St Paul’s, in triplicate, is truly amazing. Once you’ve headed over to the glass lift, be sure to look out of the window as the lift takes you on a journey in line with St Paul’s, offering a differing perspective on this iconic attraction. Once you’ve made it to the 6th floor, it’s time to enjoy the view.
Should you wish, you can partake of a drink with a view at the rooftop terrace in Maddison Rooftop Bar but there’s no obligation.
