Budget Views of Paris; The Terrace at Galeries Lafayette
A well known department store in France, Galeries Lafayette Haussmann is their flagship store located within the heart of Paris. Opening its doors back in 1912, this famous department store was built in the architectural style of art nouveau and is a sight to behold for shoppers and non-shoppers alike. Take in the impressive dome that sits within the centre of the store that has become one of the most iconic monuments in Paris. Whether you’re interested in architecture, planning to shop or simply want to take the views over Paris, Galeries Lafayette offers something for everyone.
With 6 extensive floors to browse, there’s plenty for shoppers to enjoy before heading up to the rooftop terrace. Simply head to the 6th floor and then take the 3 flights of stairs up to the top. This extensive roof top terrace is completely open so worth planning around the weather & the good news is that there are no charges in place. From the top you can take in impressive views over the city including the Eiffel Tower and Sacre Coeur before heading towards the Je T’aime Paris/I Love Paris structure that offers a great backdrop for your photos.
There is no signage available at the Terrace so best for those that know their local landmarks and, whilst it’s not the best view over the city, it’s not bad for free! This is a popular attraction so you won’t be surprised to learn that you’ll be sharing the terrace with other visitors. For a quieter experience, opt for an early morning visit ahead of the crowds before heading back into the store. Depending on the time of the year you are planning to visit, you may find opening times correlate with sunset that makes a particularly special visit.
