The Post Building Roof Terrace

This recently renovated Post Building has been converted from a post office sorting building into office space that opened back in 2022.  As part of the planning approval, the public can access the roof terrace for the next 20 years but it has kept a low profile since opening & visitor numbers remain low. Interestingly IanVisits reports that there is clause in the agreement between Camden council and the property developer whereby they can reduce opening hours if they can prove that the terrace isn’t being used much so it’s imperative that we help get the word out there.

Open from 10am to 7pm, (or dusk if earlier) each day with the exception of Christmas Day & Boxing Day, here’s a chance to take in views of London 9 stories up.  You can take in the sights including the London Eye, The Shard, St Paul’s Cathedral, BT Tower, Walkie Talkie, Big Ben, Houses of Parliament & Wembley Stadium with ample space to wonder around and find a spot to enjoy the view.

Whilst the roof terrace is free of charge and no advance booking process is in place, you will need to show photographic ID on the door to gain access to the top.  Once you’ve signed in, head to the lift to the back of the building and be transported up to some mighty fine views of the city.

There are minimal facilities available on-site and a strict no food or drink policy in place, (your bags will be checked) so there’s little to do but take in the view.  There are a number of different vantage points around the terrace to contemplate your surroundings plus a chance to sit back and enjoy the view. Follow our tips & tricks below to get the most from your visit to the The Post Building Roof Terrace.

The Post Building Roof Garden

The Post Building Roof Terrace; Top Tips

1. No booking required with this attraction as it works on a first-come-first-served basis.

2. It’s hard to find the access point to enter the roof garden particularly as signage is minimal.  The Post Building entrance for the roof gardens is found on New Oxford Street, rather than Museum Street where the main entrance is located.  Look out for a small sign above the door, where a member of staff will buzz you into the building.

3. Remember your photo ID as you have to present this to the staff member to gain access to the roof terrace.

4. No food and drink can be taken up to the roof garden with the exception of bottled water, (your bags will be searched).  All other refreshments must be stored, free of charge, in lockers situated on the ground floor.

5. Worth noting that there is no information signage available at the roof garden so this terrace works best for those that know their sights.

6. There is some seating around the roof terrace and the steps to the front of the terrace double up as a place to park up.

7. This is simply a roof terrace, without any retail/refreshment outlets available, although there are public toilets available.

8. We spent around 30 minutes at the roof terrace so useful for those planning to fit a number of attractions into your day and not too far away from The British Museum or Covent Garden.
