Avenue Verte; Through The Mud
January 1st, 2015Avenue Verte; London to Paris Day 6
During our Avenue Verte course, we’ve traveled over beautifully manicured cycle paths, quiet country lanes, rough tracks and today, quite literally, through muddy fields. Note to self, if you were considering using a road bike for the Avenue Verte course, I’d think again!
Gisors to Avernes offers a varied course through the French countryside. The children love it as, off road, they are free to bound ahead. Whilst the weather took a turn for the worst, the younger members of our party took off with little heed. It was fantastic to see the children outside, active, happy & not an electronic device in sight!

Insider’s Guide to Avenue Verte
The rain kept up & our sudden track through extensive fields quickly became a mud fest. As we trawled through deep muddy water, crops on either side, rain water sluicing down my face, I wondered quite what I had let myself in for….not surprisingly, the kids were in their element!
We managed to wrangle 1 night in a beautiful gite deep in the French countryside. Surprisingly, our hosts for the night weren’t put off by the 6 cyclists drenched head to foot in mud turning up at their door. They provided us with a complimentary bottle of wine & politely pointed out the washing machine!
