Legoland Discovery Centre Review
July 12th, 2015Legoland Discovery Centre Review
I recently visited Legoland Discovery Centre with two eager testers in tow, (age 8 & 10 years), to try out this popular visitor attraction in Manchester. Interestingly, whilst one of my young testers is Lego mad the other couldn’t be less so, but both loved this full-on interactive experience.

Legoland Discovery Centre; What Worked
Whilst my overriding & slightly compulsive obsession was to beat the queues during our visit, the boys were unperturbed throughout the visit as the setting began to fill up….they headed straight to the Lego Racers area!
The layout has changed and expanded since I last visited, some 12 months ago, and now boasts of another new ride. The Lego City Forest Pursuit Ride is aimed at children between 1 & 1.5 metres & gives you the chance to drive a life sized Lego car. Great for the younger kids.
As we moved onto Merlin’s Apprentice, it’s time for the grown ups to get involved. This ride required peddling power; the faster you pedal the higher you go! Our testers loved it but be prepared to be shattered if you want to try this one yourself.
With my queue busting head on, it was great to see a range of good capacity areas within the attraction. The 4D Cinema, Miniland, Lego Racers, Fire Academy & Duplo Village all offer relatively queue free areas…so in my book, that means leave these attractions for the busier times. The kids, of course, had other ideas & I couldn’t get them out of the Lego Racers area!
As a huge Corrie fan, I was impressed with their attention to detail in Miniland with The Rovers now under construction following the recent fire!

More Top Tips for Legoland Discovery Centre
Tip To Beat The Queues
1. Early Bird; opt to arrive about 30 minutes before the attraction opens & ensure you are in the right queue. The biggest bottleneck is as you arrive; queuing for tickets, accessing the lift to the attraction & making your way through the factory tour.
2. Avoid the factory tour; passholders can avoid the factory tour by joining a separate queue. Ask staff on the day how this works.
3. Turn Left & Keep Going; as you exit from the factory tour, avoid being directed off to the Kingdom Quest ride, (you can do this later in the day), instead turn left into the main arena, signposted Miniland. This gives you free range to the busiest areas of the attraction before the queues arrive!
3. Head Straight; go straight to the areas where the queues build quickly; Merlin’s Apprentice, Lego City Forest Pursuit Ride, Lego Friends, (the karaoke stage)
4. Save for Later; remember the good capacity areas such as the 4D Cinema, Miniland, Lego Racers, Fire Academy & Duplo Village can all be undertaken later in your visit as the numbers build.
Legoland Discovery Centre; Odds & Sods
1. Great to see parking remains FREE outside this attraction.
2. Whist picnics aren’t actively encouraged, we weren’t the only ones tucking into a home made sandwich.
3. Legoland Discovery Centre is aimed at children aged 3 -10 years & kids don’t necessarily have to have an interested in Lego. Whilst our 2 testers were at the higher end of the age spectrum and couldn’t enter some areas, (due to height restrictions), they loved the 4D cinema, Lego Racers, Minland & Merlin’s Apprentice Ride.
4. Remember that passholders can take advantage of 20% discounts at the onsite cafe & 10% discount in the shop.
5. Legoland Discovery Centre is set within the Trafford Centre. As this attraction is billed as a half day experience, it gives you time later in the day to get some shopping done.
