What Is A Stay Play Explore Family Fun Short Break?
This short break comprises of an overnight stay in a hotel, breakfast plus family entry to 3 activities/attractions in or around Leicestershire all from £139 for a family of 4, (larger families accommodated at an additional charge). Not only does this offer great value for money but I’m always attracted to the flexibility that comes with this package that includes a choice of hotel accommodation plus a range of activities.
Your break includes a choice of 3 attractions/activities including;
- Tobogganing & Sno-tubing at Swadlincote Ski Slope.
- A visit to Conkers.
- Crazy golf & pedalos at Bosworth Water Park.
- National Space Centre.

Swadlincote Snow Tubing
Stay Play Explore Family Adventure; Swadlincote Ski Centre
We started off at Swadlincote Ski Centre with a half hour session of sno-tubing followed swiftly by 2 toboggan runs down the slope. As the centre can get busy at peak times, it is always best to book in advance to avoid disappointment & then simply pass over your Stay Play Explore voucher on the day.
We found it to be a decent sized outdoor slope with plenty of laughs as we navigated the course through a range of adrenaline activities, (remember to wear long sleeves & trousers). The tubing also offered us the chance to travel down together, (up to 6 at a time), and this was the hidden gem with this break – a chance for families to spend some quality time together doing something out-of-the-ordinary!
Sno-tubing & tobogganing are only available for children age 4 years & above.

Next up was Bosworth Water Park for a spot of crazy golf & pedalos. There can be some distance between the settings so it’s always worth a bit of forward planning to ensure the travel times are manageable during your stay. Saying that, it’s good to know that you can return later within the calendar year to complete your selected activities should you wish to leave something for another time.
The Bosworth activities include a half hour session on a pedalo around a vast 20 acre area of water, (that’s a lot of pedaloing I can tell you), followed by a fun game of crazy golf. If they still have energy to spare, there’s a good sized playground for younger children plus the blue lagoon outdoor water area for those that fancy a dip!
Good to know that parking charges are included within your package so remember to take your parking ticket to the visitor centre before you leave to have it validated.

Previously we’ve stayed at the Hilton East Midlands Airport complete with swimming pool, sauna & gym. Whilst there are some restrictions on the use of the pool for children during weekday evenings, (Monday to Thursday), if you time this well this is an added bonus to your short break package.
A buffet breakfast is included within your stay, (you’ll certainly need a hearty breakfast to keep your energy up), and we were impressed with the full range of breakfast items on offer. Our room was a great fit for a family of 4 and I really didn’t hear any airport noise during our stay.
Great to see that parking is free of charge at Hilton East Midlands Airport for Stay Play Explore Breaks.

Stay Play Explore; Our 3rd Activity?
As mentioned above, another benefit of this short break is that you can space out your attractions/activities with the calendar year, (just check for excluded dates). As we live within commuter distance from Leicestershire, we decided to keep hold of our 3rd activity for another day.
This offers us an additional day out later in the year, at no added cost, and the debate continues at to which activity this is likely to be.
