Phil Loach Photographer
May 8th, 2023Phil Loach
It is with a heavy heart that I am sharing the news that our photographer Phil Loach died on Wednesday 12 April 2023 following a short illness. Phil has been providing photographs for Topdogdays since 2014 where his images captured special moments at visitor attractions around the UK. Phil worked in regional press for 45 years, culminating in chief photographer for the Stourbridge, Dudley and Halesowen News titles.
During his retirement from journalism, Phil devoted much of his time to personal photographic projects that he documented though his website The Silver Image and latterly through a number of public exhibitions hosted by the Black Country Living Museum, The Dudley Canal Trust and Himley Hall Arts Centre. A selection of Phil’s photographic work will be posthumously published by the prestigious Cafe Royal Books later this year.
Through his photographic work, Phil could encapsulate a moment in time, always with an eye for the unusual, that helped bring alive content on every page of our website. A talented documentary photographer, Phil could capture ordinary events through his lens and, with a pinch of magic, turn these images into special moments. Whether it be adrenalin fueled visitors enjoying coasters at a theme park through to the wonder of a young child experiencing penguins at close hand, Phil had a knack of ensuring he was in the right place to bring these images to life. We’ll let his images speak for themselves.
I will forever be grateful for Phil for his support in providing a wealth of images for Topdogdays that will live on through these pages but, more than that, I’ve lost a great family member and friend.
Rest In Peace.
