Amazon Fresh; Online Grocery Shopping

Struggling to source online shopping slots for my mum, I realised that it was time to take a new look at online grocery shopping.  Like many other households, trying to locate that elusive online delivery slot during the middle of a global pandemic, was becoming an uphill struggle.  Whilst the likes of Tesco & Sainsbury’s continue to work hard to increase their online delivery potential, it remained a daunting task to secure a delivery slot.

Having arrived at Amazon Prime quite late in the day, (to be honest we’d only joined to extend our range of films and tv programmes rather than anything  to do with food), it was a revelation.  Who knew there was an option to secure groceries & toiletries with the added bonus of delivery spots within the next few days.  We’ve tested it out a couple of times and you can see our thought below.

AmazonFresh; Our Thoughts?

AmazonFresh is an additional service available to Amazon Prime members that allows you to have grocery orders delivered to your home within a specified delivery window. Whilst there may not be the range of stock that you would normally find on your  usual grocery online shop, we found it plentiful for restocking our shelves. There is an easy search button at the top of the page to help you to build up your list quickly and, on our orders to date, everything we ordered was delivered with no substitutions.

There was a good level of communication, via email & text, throughout the process to keep you up to date with how your delivery is progressing.  I particularly liked the text on the day letting me know that my order was next to be delivered.  Both orders were delivered within the specified 2 hour delivery spot and left in strong brown paper bags on the doorstep. The vehicles used appear clean and fully functioning with delivery drivers appropriately masked up.  Both of our drivers were helpful, polite and conscious of social distancing at all times.

If you order alcohol, ensure you have ID ready to show your delivery driver whatever your age.  Quite a thing for my 75 year old mother to be asked for ID again!

Who Is Eligible for AmazonFresh?

AmazonFresh is only available to Prime and Fresh members.  As this effectively cuts out people without subscriptions, this has perhaps contributed towards to its success in opening up available delivery slots.

AmazonFresh; Is There A Minimum Order

Yes, orders must reach a minimum order value of £40 or more.  Rather than browsing additional items to add to your list to reach the threshold, why not stock up on durable household items such washing powder or cleaning products to keep the costs down.

AmazonFresh; Any Deliveries Charges?

For orders of £120 or more, then delivery is FREE of charge.

For orders less than this, (but above the minimum threshold), there are two options available for AmazonFresh deliveries.  Either elect to pay a delivery charge for each individual order, (currently set at £2.99 on order) or opt to purchase an additional monthly membership fee, (currently set at £3.99 a month) to receive all your grocery deliveries free of further charge.  It maybe wise to start with the one-off delivery fee at first to ensure availability/suitability before tying yourself into a monthly contract.

AmazonFresh; Is My Area Covered?

This new service was initially only available to specific postcodes in London but is seemingly expanding at a fast pace so worth checking if your home address is covered.
