A Guide To Accommodation Options In London

When planning a visit to London, it’s never easy to trawl though the thousands of accommodation listings to find what you are looking for.  Whether you are looking for budget breaks, top hotel listings or something out of the ordinary simply follow our Guide to Accommodation in London to help you find the perfect choice.

1. LateRooms

For a simple overview LateRooms provides a comprehensive list of of available accommodation within London to suit all budgets. Search across hotel chains as well as independent listings to track down suitable accommodation. I particularly like the easy search navigation found on LateRooms that allows you to take account of factors such as guest satisfaction ratings, distances from a particular attraction, price range & type of accommodation.

Look Out For; this comprehensive list of Best Hotels in London allows you to quickly whittle down your search by using the search filters.

Look Out For; worth considering their Cheap London Hotels for a budget break to the city.

Deals; competitively priced hotel accommodation with no booking or cancellation fees, (subject to hotel’s cancellation policy).

Top Tip; works on a ‘book now pay when you stay’ basis that benefits those that wish to remain flexible during their visit, (just keep an eye on the cancellation policy for each setting booked).

2. Trusted Housesitters

Offer your services as a pet sitter with Trusted Housesitters and be rewarded with free accommodation during your travels. If you are comfortable caring for a pet, (generally cats & dogs) & happy to make yourself at home in someone else’s home then this can offer substantial savings on a trip to London.

Families; ideal for those comfortable with animals in this home-from-home environment that offers self catering options too.

Deals; sign up for monthly membership for around £6.60 a month, (1 year minimum requirement), and then access FREE accommodation throughout the year.

Top Tip; the more flexible you can be with both dates, location & choice of pet the greater your chances of securing free accommodation during your travels.

3. Travelodge

Great for the budget traveller Travelodge offers a ‘no-frills’ basic accommodation with a price to match. We’ve stayed in a number of Travelodges both in central London & further afield where prices start from just £29 a room. Great family offers available plus a major major refurbishment programme currently underway.

Family; Travelodge is reaching out to families with rooms that include a king size bed and 2 pull out beds or a pull out sofa bed, (cots available too but worth booking in advance).

Deals; the great advantage with a Travelodge is that children under 16 years stay FREE of charge when you book a family room. For double deals kids eat FREE too when you opt for breakfast!

Look out for; Travelodge London Central City offers a great central location including family rooms where we’ve often picked up a great price on accommodation.  Alternatively Travelodge London City Airport offers basic budget accommodation further out of the city, (just 20 minutes away on the DLR line).

Top Tip; it’s not easy to track down a £29 room but if you’re prepared to stay further out of city/less popular locations then there’s more chance of a bargain.

5. Youth Hotel Association

Great to see that the Youth Hotel Association has come a long way from simply accommodating backpackers & now reaches out to families too.  Many hotels now offer private en-suite rooms that can sleep up to 6 people with plenty of good reviews available from families who’ve given it a go.

Families; great private accommodation complete with en-suite that’s suitable for larger families too.

Look Out For; try the YHA London St Pancras that offers private family rooms in the heart of London or stay further afield in woodland lodges at the YHA London Lee Valley where you can combine sightseeing within a rural retreat.

Top Tip; whilst you no longer have to join the YHA to take advantage of their accommodation, members receive a discounted rate.

6. Premier Inn

Premier Inn have worked hard over the past few years to upgrade their accommodation that now comes with a Good Night Guarantee offering you a money back guarantee. The downside is that prices have become relatively more expensive so you’ll be hard pressed to secure their signature £29 a room deal anywhere in central London but nevertheless offers value for money.

Family; rooms are available that accommodate up to 2 adults & 2 children, (cots available too).

Deals; great option for children under 16 years stay for FREE in family rooms & up to 2 children can eat breakfast for free when 1 adult purchases a full premier breakfast.

Look Out For;  their Top 20 Central London Hotels including a breakdown of saver rates.

Top Tip; Premier Inn will offer you a very comfortable stay across wide range of locations throughout London. Whilst this may no longer be the cheapest option, their family deal can offer great value for money.
