Jardin du Luxembourg offers a tranquil oasis within the bustling city of Paris and is certainly worth a visit. Set within the heart of the city, it evokes thoughts of a bygone age. Visitors can partake of a range of recreational pursuits or simply sit and enjoy some bread & cheese with friends. Enjoy Views of Eiffel Tower whilst taking in the atmosphere; simply sit back & relax away from city life. There are plenty of beautiful parks to be found around Paris, but the Jardin d’Luxembourg is certainly our firm favourite.

Boating Lake at Luxembourg Gardens

Whilst there are an abundance of parks found within Paris, our favourite has to be Jardin du Luxembourg. The park lends itself to a time gone by. You’ll see young children sailing boats on the boating lake, adults enjoying a game of boules or families sitting together savouring a simple picnic.
Set within the heart of the city, Luxembourg Gardens is a peaceful retreat in which to enjoy a range of recreational pursuits. As you meander around the many paths, you’ve only got to look up to see views of the Eiffel Tower or the Montparnasse Tower surrounding the park. Whilst the hustle and bustle of city life continues just metres away, the atmosphere within the gardens reflects a more sedate pace of life.
Whilst cycling is not permitted within the park, runners amongst you can enjoy a popular route about the park. Simply join fellow runners by taking the (anticlockwise) circular path that snakes the perimeter of the park.

There’s plenty of activities to get involved within the park. Our favourite for families has to be hiring a sailing boat from the kiosk located next to the boating lake, (around 8€ for 30 minutes). Set your ship off to sail, follow it around the boating lake for some simple old fashioned fun.
You’ll find plenty of people setting out a simple fare of bread & cheese and enjoying a picnic with friends or family. There are a large number of free standing chairs to be found dotted around the park that allows you to find a perfect spot to enjoy time together or partake in a spot of people watching. During the warmer months, you’ll find plenty of shaded spots under the trees that offers a cooler experience.
Within the park, you’ll also find an extensive adventure playground, tennis courts and even an area specifically designated for boules. With plenty of seating around the boules area, you can park up and watch the action unfold before you and even pick up some tips for your own technique. Look out for seasonal events too that have previously included puppet shows for youngsters, (small charges in place), and even a bandstand that can offer a great way to enjoy an afternoon in the heart of Paris.
