Each year, there’s always an array of 2 for 1 Vouchers for Merlin Attractions that can be found in store on promotional items of food, drink and hygiene products. For those clued up on voucher promotions, you’ll already be aware that these 2 for 1’s can be used at a range of Merlin Attractions including Thorpe Park, LEGOLAND®Windsor, The London Eye, SEA LIFE, Alton Towers, The London Dungeon, Chessington World of Adventures and many more.

Previously these vouchers came with long list of excluded dates, that tended to correspond with peak times of the year, when these 2 for 1’s could not be used such select dates in August & Fright Nights at Thorpe Park.  We than began to notice a rise in people contacting us to report that the voucher couldn’t be used on other dates that hadn’t been excluded from the promotion. Whilst we always make it clear that we are independent of all visitor attractions and promotions; we simple let you know where the deals can be found, anecdotally we were hearing of ticket allocations for each attraction.  This would suggest that, once the ticket allocation for this promotion had been fulfilled for a certain date, you could not make use of this 2 for 1 offer.

2 for 1 Vouchers & Ticket Allocations

This year, we are starting to see changes within the terms and conditions of some of these 2 for 1 promotions that explicitly sets out that ‘Merlin Entertainments may limited ticket allocations, subject to a minimum number of allocated to every day the attraction is open.’

So for promotions such as the National Rail 2 for 1 Offer that includes a range of Merlin Attractions, there remains some excluded dates & an option to move towards a minimum allocation of tickets  In the case of the Kellogg’s 2 for 1 voucher,  we are seeing a move away from excluded dates and a move towards a minimum number of allocated tickets each day the attraction of your choice is open.

Dates for each Merlin Attraction have been split into 4 categories; SUPER OFF PEAK, OFF PEAK, PEAK & SUPER PEAK with a minimum allocation of tickets being made available for each day the attraction is open. Within the terms and conditions they do state that ‘Merlin Entertainments may (at its sole discretion) from time to time make additional tickets available for particular attractions, so you may wish to check back later if your preferred attraction and date combination are not available when you first attempt to book.’ So for those set on a particular date, it can be worth pursuing this avenue further…but always good to have a back up plan!

What is really interesting is that ticket allocations vary extensively between each attraction and are dependent upon which category it has been placed within, (these dates are set out with the terms and conditions).  So for instance, with the Kellogg’s 2 for 1 Voucher, we are seeing unlimited availability during super off-peak times at all participating Merlin Attractions so for those planning a visit during a relatively quiet time, this voucher should work quite easily.

However as we move towards busier times, this allocation of tickets can reduce quite dramatically. Again with the Kellogg’s promotion, we are seeing tickets limited to just 140 for Thorpe Park, 130 for LEGOLAND Windsor, 70 for Warwick Castle or just 35 tickets for LEGOLAND Discovery Centre during super peak times. If the attraction moves to a ticket allocation process and has already fulfilled their allocation, it would mean you cannot use this promotion on that day unless additional tickets are added.  This may suggest that these 2 for 1 promotions may work best for those that can book early, get lucky with their date, visit on relatively quieter days or those that can be flexible with their dates.
