Jardin du Luxembourg in Paris
Jardin du Luxembourg, (Luxembourg Gardens), brings peace & tranquillity to this bustling city and, for those on a budget, it’s a not to be missed experience.
Set in the heart of the city, the Jardin du Luxembourg evokes thoughts of a bygone age of a simpler life with plenty of recreational activities for everyone.
As the second largest Parisian park, Jardin du Luxembourg is centrally located within the 6th arrondissement.
Top Tip for Budget Paris; make use of the Velib Bikes for a complete budget day out. Whilst you cannot ride within the park, it certainly cuts costs on transport and there are plenty of docking stations around the park.
Set within it’s grounds, you’ll come across a range of leisure pursuits including tennis, basketball & of course the very french game of petanque, (a form of boules).
Meander around the park, take in the sights or get involved, the choice is yours.
Jardin du Luxembourg; The Boating Lake
It’s the children’s facilities that stand out above all else for me at this Parisian park.
No trip would be complete to the Jardin du Luxembourg without taking to the boating lake.
For just a couple of euros, (per child per 30 minutes), you can hire a beautifully crafted wooden sailboat complete with wooden pole to aid navigation.
Our kids loved it and in a time of electronic devices, it was pure joy to witness your children taken delight in these simple pleasures.
There are plenty of parents getting involved too!
Playground at Jardin du Luxembourg
Jardin du Luxembourg; The Adventure Playground
You’ll find a fantastic playground within the Jardin du Luxembourg for children up to the age of around 10 years.
Whilst adults & children need to pay to enter the park, (around €3 a child/€1,50 an adult), there won’t be any moving the kids for quite some while!
From sandpits to an array of slides to interactive play features for older kids too, there’s something for everyone at this playground.
Great to see plenty of drinking water fountains within the playground too that all helps to keep the costs down.
Within this area, you will also find well maintained toilets specially designed for kids.
Be aware the playground does close late afternoon/early evening depending upon the season so check out the opening times if you are considering a late visit.

As you walk around the Jardin du Luxembourg, you’re sure to come across donkey rides, old fashioned swings and even a puppet theatre, (although the latter was closed during our trip in August).
Whether you wish to sunbath, people watch, take it easy or get involved in the many activities on offer, the Jardin du Luxembourg is sure to delight.
