It was once the second highest man-made climbing structure in Europe, (heck it still could be as I can never keep up with these ever-changing stats), Knowsley Aerial Extreme certainly makes a dramatic first impression.  Ideally located next door to Knowsley Safari Park in Liverpool, the high & low ropes assault course works well as a stand alone attraction or as part of a full day out.  We’ve found some great added benefits too for Aerial Extreme customer that are worth looking out for!

Aerial Extreme Knowsley; 3 Courses

Aerial Extreme Knowsley has 3 different course levels that cater for a range of ages & abilities.  The low ropes works well for younger visitors & those unsure about being too far off the ground.  The medium & high ropes offers a more challenging experience further off the ground, which was of course, where my two energetic 13 year old testers headed straight for.

All guests opting for the challenging ropes start with the medium course before subsequently electing to either progress to the higher route or remain on the medium level.  The advantage here is that guests retain flexibility without having to make decisions about the second route until they’ve had a go.

Our testers found the course to provide a technical challenge, (and they have undertaken a number of these courses over the years), that requires both skill & pure go-for-it-mentality. Both the high & medium courses offered a wide range of obstacles that includes 2 zip wires on each course & a free fall 50ft drop from the top!

One of the great advantages of Aerial Extreme is that it uses a continuous belay system, (often referred to as the Clip & Go), where you are attached to a continuous loop by a member of staff that remains in place until the end of the course.   This easy to navigate system works well for children & adults alike and offers peace of mind for those of us watching from the ground.  Staff were readily available throughout the course with encouragement & handy tips that makes you realise nothing is insurmountable.

Knowsley Aerial Extreme; Added Benefits

One thing you may not be aware of is that every paying Aerial Extreme customer to the Knowsley site, (along with 1 non-participating companion), can take advantage of FREE ENTRY into the Walkabout Areas within the safari park.

This is a substantial area within the setting that includes access to the elephants, giraffes, meerkats, birds of prey and even a creepy Bug House. Furthermore look out for the fantastic sea lions display, the walk through bat forest, animal talks and bird of prey displays that runs on busy days too. Whilst access to the drive through safari park is a separate cost, you’d be amazed at quite how much is contained within the Walkabout Area.  We spent a good couple of hours wondering around, (just watch out for the fairground rides that can set you back), enjoying the FREE attractions on offer.

Aerial Extreme & Knowsley Safari Park

If you are looking to combine a trip to Aerial Extreme with Knowsley Safari Park, it’s good to know that AE customers can take advantage of half price entry to the drive through.  Simply ensure your hand is stamped at the Aerial Extreme cabin before you leave and wave at the safari park ticket kiosk.  For double deals you can even pick up a 10% discount off the Oasis restaurant & souvenir shop too.

Top Tip; whilst Aerial Extreme participants will gain half price entry, spectators will need to pay the standard price for the safari park so worth booking these tickets online to secure a discount.

Top Dog’s Verdict?

A fun but challenging course that works well for children & adults of all abilities.  The Knowsley course also comes with the added benefit of allowing you to extend your day out at little extra cost.

Both our testers took around 90 minutes to complete the course that finished with a flourish as they dropped 50 feet from the top to bottom. Quite a leap of faith even with a full harness in place to ensure it all ended well.
