The Louvre

No trip to Paris is complete without a trip to the Louvre to this impressive art gallery in the heart of  the city.

Of course you’ll find the Mona Lisa & the Venus de Milo plus 35,000 other works of art!

Top Tips for the Louvre

1. For a less crowded entrance, avoid the main entrance by the glass pyramid & head for the Lions Gate, (Porte des Lions) in the southern wing of the Louvre.

Whilst this gate is not always open, (closed Wednesdays & Fridays), it’s certainly a quicker route in & you can purchase tickets here too!

2. For those planning to visit a number of attractions in Paris, consider a Paris Museum Pass that offers discounted entry to many Paris settings such as The Louvre.

3. All visitors can gain FREE entry to the Louvre on the first Sunday of each month, (see below).

4. The Louvre is open until 9.45pm each Wednesday & Friday evening.  This can offer a less crowded experience for art lovers.

5. Remember the Louvre is closed every Tuesday throughout the year.

6. Try out the Paris Velib Bikes for a budget trip to the Louvre.

  • Visitors under 26 years regardless of nationality on Friday evenings, (6-9.45pm)

The Louvre also offers FREE admission to all visitors on the first Sunday of each month.  This is a great chance to view the main Louvre collection, (temporary exhibitions in the Napoleon hall not included) for free.

The Louvre also offers FREE admission to all visitors on 14 July each year, (Bastille Day).

However, beware these free entry days are very popular options so you’ll need to balance cost implications against the crowded conditions.
