Budget London; London’s Street Art Tours

London Street Art Tours

If you are looking for alternative things to do in London on a budget, then it’s well worth checking out a London Street Art Tour.  This offers you alternative culture at an affordable price; it’s fresh & quirky and you’ll definitely be ahead of the game.

We took a tour recently with Alternative London on their ‘Alternative London Walking Tour’ and we can thoroughly recommend it.

London Street Art Tours; The Costs

The great advantage with this tour is that it runs on a ‘pay-what-you-like-basis’.  No payment takes place until the end of the tour where you will be asked to make a contribution dependent upon your means & enjoyment.

Now, I’m all for a deal, but do remember this is how these guys earn their living and our guide put his heart & soul into our 2 hour street art tour around the east end of London.

Simply sign up for the walking tour that takes place at regular intervals between Tuesday & Saturday each week, (numbers are limited to around 20 people per group).

Each tour runs for around 1.5 – 2 hours long with some fantastic photographic opportunities to capture street art in situ.

London Street Art Tours; Top Dog’s Verdict

Once you’ve made a booking, you’ll be given specific details on where to meet around Spitalfields Market, (closest station; London Bridge).

Our guide was a street artist himself & enthusiastically brought to life the history & political context surrounding the street art movement.  His knowledge of the East End was comprehensive and we were treated to an entertaining, whilst enlightening, account of contemporary London Street Art.

As we moved around the East End, we took in a wide range of Street Art including crochet bicycles, mushroom art forms & spray paint images with our guide at hand to bring it all to life.

Street Art Tours; Odds & Sods

1. Have your cameras at the ready as there are plenty of opportunities to capture street art as you move around the East End of London.

2. There is a considerable amount of walking involved in this tour, (what with it being billed as an Alternative London Walking Tour) so ensure you wearing appropriate attire….it is of course, all outside too.

3. Our tour guide briefly touched upon Jack the Ripper at the start of the tour, (the East End being The Ripper’s old haunting ground).  Whilst the guide was careful of young ears, it did lead to a few questions from my 10 year old.

4. No two tours are the same as street art is continuously changing & developing with new images going up practically every day.

5. Remember whilst payment runs on a ‘pay-what-you-like’ basis, please do be generous…this is their job!
