2. Warwick Castle; Additional Extras

General admission tickets will secure you access to Warwick Castle & the grounds but NOT secondary attractions such as the Castle Dungeon.  You can add tickets to your standard admission either when purchasing online or from the ticket booths on the day of your visit. These additional add on attractions can increase your cost of a day out at Warwick Castle so worth considering if these are central to your experience.  Some will enjoy the thrills & scares of the the Castle Dungeon, whilst others will find ample to do within the grounds without forking out for additional extras.

3. The Castle Dungeon; Delay Your Purchase

Did you know that tickets to the Castle Dungeon are available from the courtyard shop, ideally located next to the Dungeons, as well from the ticket booths?  For those that wish to guarantee admission to the Castle Dungeon, you’d be wise to purchase tickets either online or on arrival at the ticket booths. However, for those less certain of the need of this additional spend, you could leave it to later in the day to purchase tickets from the courtyard shop.  Tickets are subject to availability so this advice is more for visitors less certain that the Castle Dungeon will add to their day.

4. Premium Passholder Perks

Premium, Gold & Platinim Passholders can take advantage of FREE Parking to Warwick Castle.  Those with premium or platinum passes can also pick up discounted access into the Castle Dungeon, (subject to availability).  Unfortunately standard passholders now must pay the standard parking charge & will need to purchase tickets for the Castle Dungeon.

5. Warwick Castle; Picnics & Lockers

Picnics are welcome at Warwick Castle and, with 64 acres of grounds available you’ll be sure to find somewhere to pitch up for lunch!  It is suggested that you bring along a picnic blanket for convenience in order to sit down and enjoy the green spaces. There are a limited number of Warwick Castle Lockers available should you prefer to store your picnic away for later in the day.  Lockers can be found in the Stables car park and charged at £1 per use, (non-refundable).  Lockers are suitable for hand luggage sized cases and rucksacks.

In the warmer months, there is a water bottle refill facility behind the courtyard refreshments, alternatively please ask at any food and drink outlet for a refill.

6. Say Cheese? No Thanks!

There are the inevitable photo opportunities as you access a number of the attractions such as the Castle Dungeon that are subsequently available for purchase.  Whilst this can be a bone of contention, particularly with children in tow, I always side-step the issue by choosing not to pose in the first place.

7. Warwick Castle Playground

You may have missed it on your way in, but it’s worth taking time out with the kids at Pageant Playground suitable for children up the age of around 10 years.  Plenty of slides & climbing equipment to keep them entertained.

8. Castle Dungeon; Suggested Age

Although the final decision is left with parents/carers, Warwick Castle suggests the Castle Dungeon is unsuitable for children under the age of 10 years.  There is an option to leave the Castle Dungeon early, (I may have used this option purely for testing purposes of course), but clearly not something the staff want happening all the time!

9. Take Note of Events Running

Plan ahead by taking note of the events running at Warwick Castle to get the most from your day out.  As Warwick Castle is set within extensive grounds it is easy to miss something going on so worth putting in the legwork upfront. There is also a notice board laid out with daily events running as you first enter the grounds.

10. Afternoon Tea at Warwick Castle

Enhance your visit to Warwick Castle by enjoying afternoon tea in The Conservatory.  Previous partakers of afternoon tea in these elegant surroundings include King George VI, Queen Elizabeth, US President Theodore Roosevelt & even Cary Grant with Grace Kelly in the 1950’s.  To book go to Afternoon Tea at Warwick Castle.

11. One Way Out

Younger guests will particularly enjoy explore the castle’s defences within the Towers & Ramparts as they clamber around the defensive walls & towers.  For those with mobility difficulties, it is worth noting that a one way system is in operation and contains confined spaces, uneven flooring, spiral staircases and a large number of steps.
