A Guide to The Montparnasse Tower

The Montparnasse Tower offers a stunning outlook over Paris, (40km visibility on a clear day), with one added benefit over the Eiffel Tower; a view that includes the Eiffel Tower!

Boasting of Europe’s fastest lift, (38 seconds- we checked), a 360 degree roof terrace from the top of the building plus drastically reduced queues to gain entry, the Montparnasse Tower is worth a visit.

Montparnasse Tower; The Best Bits

1. The great advantage with the Montparnasse Tower is that you have the Eiffel Tower within your view of Paris.  Take in the Eiffel Tower from a new perspective either from within the glass encased 56th floor or a more open view from the top of the tower.

2. The queues for the Montparnasse Tower are significantly shorter than those experienced at the Eiffel Tower.  Whilst this attraction cannot compete with the thrills of the Eiffel Tower, it does offer great views of Paris with plenty of deals available to keep the costs down plus fewer queues!

3. The Montparnasse Tower offers a more interactive experience with plenty of multimedia devices located around the 56th floor that will particularly appeal to younger customers.

4. Chill out on the central area of the roof terrrace on the 59th floor.  Whilst you can indulge in a glass of champagne, many just simply sit on the deck floor and enjoy the view.

Montparnasse Tower; Top Tips

1. Time your visit to the Montparnasse Tower for the best views of the city.  Remember the tower is open until late each day so you could try the view at sunset or take in the light show at the Eiffel Tower during the evening.

2. Take advantage of the fastrack entrance for those with pre-booked tickets.

3. Look out for the glass-free areas on the 59th floor to take unrestricted views over Paris.  Simply walk around the outside edge of the roof terrace where you will see small gaps between the glass barriers that are ideal for taking unobstructed images.

4. You can send a FREE e-card, complete with your own personal image, from the top of the Montparnasse Tower to friends & family.  Look out for the e-card media device close to the entrance of the gift shop on the 56th floor.

5. There are inevitable photo opportunities as you access the 56th floor from the lift that are then available for purchase.  You can always side step this issue by refusing to pose.

6. Take note of the weather conditions before planning your visit – an open air visit to the terrace will be more appreciated in finer weather.

7. The closest Metro stop is Montparnasse Bienvenue.

Top Dog Verdict

Great to take in a view of Paris that includes the Eiffel Tower but should be seen as an add-on experience rather than as an alternative to climbing the Eiffel Tower.
