Alton Towers Car Parking Tickets
Car Parking at Alton Towers is currently charged at £10 per car, (March 2024 prices), where guests will require a car parking ticket to exit from the barriers at the end of the day. You can purchase car parking tickets in the following ways;
1. Car Parking Tickets with Theme Park Tickets; you can purchase your car parking ticket in conjunction with your theme park tickets if you book directly with Alton Towers. You’ll be prompted for Standard Parking during your transaction process. If you are looking to book Express Parking, you’ll need to select the ‘Extras’ tab during the transaction process.
2. Online Car Parking Tickets without Theme Park Tickets; you can purchase car park tickets online by heading over to Alton Towers Parking. This method works well for those that have already picked up theme park tickets although unfortunately there is no longer any online discounts for purchasing car park tickets in advance.
3. Machines; you will find car parking ticket machines by the entrance/exit to Alton Towers. As you arrive at the park, it can be worth making a purchase then so as to avoid the queues that can inevitably build later on in the day.
4. Guest Services; car parking tickets are available at the The Resort Box Office on Towers Street or Guest Services dotted around the park.
FOLLOW OUR Guide to Alton Towers – packed with top tips & how to beat the queues!
FREE Parking at Alton Towers

More information available over at Alton Towers Short Breaks.
Passholders; Gold, Platinum and Premium Merlin Passholders can take advantage of FREE standard parking at Alton Towers. Simply scan your pass at the car park exit to take advantage of this free parking perk.
Alton Towers; Motorcycles
There is a designated motorcycles area located within standard parking that is situated close to the monorail station. A member of staff will direct you to the parking spaces available.
FREE Drop Off/Collection Point
There is a FREE drop off/collection point that allows you to avoid the car parking charges altogether if you can persuade someone to give you a lift. As the drop off/collection point is located close to the main Alton Towers entrance, this also offers you a swift entry into the park. More details available at Drop Off & Collection at Alton Towers.
Express Parking
Express Parking offers you a quick entry/exit to & from the park as the car park is located close to the main theme park entrance, (1-3 minute walk). Bypassing the need for the monorail, Express Parking offers you easy access into the park although there is a surcharge for this service. Currently charged at £20 for theme park guests, (March 2024 prices), Express Parking must be booked in advance.
Gold, Platinum & Premium Merlin Passholders can book Express Parking for £10 when booked in advance.
CBeebies Land Hotel Guests can get FREE Express Parking, (hotel booking confirmation must be shown).
Alton Towers; Car Parking Tips
1. Remember where you have parked – in the heat of the excitement it’s easy to forget to take note of where you have parked as you dash for the entrance. It all looks very different when the car park is full to brimming at the end of the day so look out for markers such as a ribbon on your aerial, to help you navigate your way back.
2. Pick up your car parking ticket from the machines at the beginning of the day, (close to the main exit/entrance), to bypass the queues at the end of the day.
3. For a quicker entry/exit to the park, worth considering Express Parking that offers a limited number of space close to the main entrance. This can be a popular option so best to book as far in advance as spaces are limited.
4. Remember you’ll only need ONE Premium/Gold/Platinum Passholder in your car to pick up FREE parking at Alton Towers.

Questions and Comments
Trying to book two days at alton towers using a separate hotel, do I need to buy two individual parking tickets for both days or can I just use one?
Hi Rhys, if you are staying at accommodation within the resort that you can secure free parking during your stay. If you are staying off-site, then you will need to purchase two parking tickets; one for each day, Liz
Staying at c beebies which entitles you to free express parking but impossible to book in advance without paying so pointless as always full! How early can we get in to express park on the off chance there is availability?
Hi Catherine, I understand that CBeebies Land Hotel Guests get free Express Parking where a hotel hotel booking confirmation must be shown. For further clarification you might be best contacting Alton Towers directly with your query, all the best, Liz
Payed for parking online but can’t see any ticket in my wallet
Hi Matthew, if you have paid for your parking online then you’ve the option printing your parking ticket at home or show your ticket on screen using your smart phone and present it at the car park barrier, hope that helps, Liz.
Hi there,
How long in advance can I book my standard ticket for parking because online it doesn’t give me the option to select a specific day.
Please let me know
Thanks
Linton
Hi Linton, you can book your parking in advance and use on the day of your visit. Simply print your parking ticket at home or show your ticket on screen using your smart phone and present it at the car park barrier as you exit Alton Towers, Liz
How can I pay for parking if I forget to pay the same day I visited Alton towers
Hi Hanane, usually there are barriers down by the car parking exit so you cannot leave until payment has been made – I’m thinking this wasn’t the case on the day of your visit? I’m not sure there is a way to pay retrospectively for parking at Alton Towers, Liz
I’m travelling to the theme park in a motor home which car park should I use, standard or the coach park it is 6 m long
Hi Kate, Alton Towers have indicated that motorhomes & caravans can park in the main car park as the spaces are quite generous. If the motorhome/caravan is exceptionally large, the Alton Towers car parking attendants will direct you accordingly as there is also coach parking at the park so this might be an option the car parking attendants may consider.
I just wanted to book parking. I did book online tickets for Alton Towers for 29th and 30th November 2021 but when I pressed the parking reservation on several occasions, it would not take me to the page so was unable to book anything. I did not realise how difficult it would be to park. The problem is I do have a bad back which often causes me problems in walking too much (I do not have a blue badge). Do you have any suggestions please. Thank you
Hi Karen, unfortunately it looks like all the express parking, (located close to the park entrance), for Alton Towers is all booked up and you would indeed need a blue badge to access blue badge parking at the park. You can purchase your car parking token for the standard car park on the day. There is a monorail normally running from the standard car park to the theme park that should reduce the distance required to walk. I note you are visiting on both 29th and 30th November, if you are staying at the resort, you could perhaps contact the hotel directly to see if there any other options to you, Liz
I have some complimentary tickets – can I just arrive and be admitted or do we still need to book for entrance?
Hi Rebecca, you will be able to purchase standard parking on the day. I’m not sure what type of complimentary tickets you have so might be best checking directly with Altin Towers to double check to ensure entry to the park, Liz
I am trying to book express parking for Sunday 24th and it wont let me. In fact it appears that there is no availability for express parking for the next 6 months – is there something wrong here?
Hi Rebecca, I’ve had a look at Express Parking for Alton Towers and it would seem that all available spaces have alreafy been purchased up to the end of the season on November 7th. Worth keeping an eye out in case they add any further availability but otherwise it will be standard parking that you can purchase on the day, Liz
I have infection in my right toes, therefore I am. It able to walk for long. Is there any way I can park in the disable bay without the blue bedge? Please let me know as soon as possible as I am coming to the theme park this weekend.
Hi Mrs Shah, disabled parking is reserved for blue badge holders only. However there is a drop off area close to the main entrance so perhaps, if you are travellung with others, you could be dropped off/collected from the drop off area and then the rest of your party could then make their way to the standard car park. Alternatively make use of Express Parking that is located close to the theme park although there is an additional charge for this service, hope this helps, Liz
i bought a car park ticket for today but we broke down and never made it, so planning to come 25th September now, can i still use my car park pass
Hi Gemma, thanks for getting in touch regarding your car parking query for Alton Towers. I think you would be best contacting Alton Towers directly regarding this matter as I am unsure whether you would indeed be able to use this ticket another day, Liz
My daughter and 3 children coming to Alton towers tomoro Wednesday 18 August.. payed for standard parking.. how do I pay extra for parking nearer the resort or can it be payed at the car park on the day??
Hi Mandy, my understanding is that you can either purchase standard parking or express parking at Alton Towers. I am not aware of an ability to upgrade from standard to express parking but you could always ask on the day to see if there is any flexibility, Liz
Hi Liz can you tell me how to use the express car parking ? Can it be done on the day?
Hi Mandy, express parking is currently priced at £18 a vehicle, (discounts for Gold, Platinum & Premium passholders). On the Alton Towers website it states it must be booked online in advance although perhaps if there is space on the day there might be some flexibility. You can find more information over at Alton Towers Parking Charges, Liz
We are booking a 2 day pass at Alton Towers we will be driving a mobile home can we park in the normal car park or can we pay extra for the express parking. How do we go about getting a 2 day parking pass Was looking on there website but couldn’t see how you put in 2 different dates
Hi Sarah, Alton Towers have indicated that motorhomes & caravans can park in the main car park as the spaces are quite generous, (unfortunately cannot be left overnight in the car park). If the motorhome/caravan is exceptionally large, car parking attendants will direct you accordingly. There is also coach parking at the park so this might be an option the car parking attendants may consider. Car parking for guests visiting the Alton Towers Theme Park is £6 for all-day parking, Liz
Incorrect, parking isn’t free for premium pass holders either!
Hi, I have checked on the Merlin Annual Pass site and it states that ‘Free parking is available at THORPE PARK Resort, Chessington World of Adventures Resort, Alton Towers Resort, LEGOLAND Windsor Resort and Warwick Castle. On the day of you visit you will simply need to scan your Premium Merlin Annual Pass at the barrier at the time of exit.’ This free parking perk is only available to Premium Merlin Passholders. Standard passholders now have to pay the regular charges for parking. Premium passholders looking to use the Express Car Park at Alton Towers, (located closer to the theme park entrance & allows you to avoid the monorail), can secure discounted parking on the day of their visit if they prefer.
Hi
We are staying at the Alton Towers Hotel for 3 nights. Is there a separate carpark for the hotel with signage directions or do we need to park in the standard carpark and walk from there to the hotel? I cant fine anything on the resort website.
Hi Siobhan, yes there is a separate car park at Alton Towers for resort guests. As you enter the park, look out for signs for the hotel or ask a member of staff to direct you to the appropriate car park, Liz
Does anyone know if we can park a 17 seat minibus in the normal parking area. Or if we would have to go to the coach parking?
Many Thanks in advance.
Mandy.
Hi Amanda, my understanding is that you would need to park in the coach/minibus parking area for Alton Towers parking. As you enter the park, look out for signage for the coach park where you will be directed by a member of Alton Towers staff. The good news is that coach/mini-bus parking is located close to the main Alton Towers entrance so no need for the mono-rail!
can I express park in my transit van ?
Hi Neil, I’ve double checked with Alton Towers and they have confirmed that a small works transit van will be fine for express parking at the park.
Hi… do you know if you can park at the Hotel car park if you have splash landings tickets (not staying overnight); or will we need to purchase a standard parking ticket. Thanks
Hi Mark, yes you can park in the Splash Landings hotel car park if you are making use of the Splash Landings waterpark. Upon departure, simply catch the staff on reception who will be able to let you know the arrangements in place for exiting the car park.
paying to park??? why else would I be there!?. Already spending a fortune to be there, robbing sods.
Hi Mark, unfortunately parking charges now seem to be par for the course at many top theme parks around the UK. Topdogdays is independent of Alton Towers so unfortunately has no involvement in the running of the park but we don’t like parking charges either:(
Hi is dropping of by coach still free in the coach park
Hi Ian, there is a designated coach parking area at Alton Towers that bypasses the mono-rail and allows visitors direct access into the theme park. You would need to check with your coach provider whether any car parking charges incurred are additional to or included within your trip to Alton Towers.
Hi,
What’s the current parking charges for blue badge holders?
Hi, Alton Towers has a number of parking spaces for guests with disabilities located close to the main entrance to the park, (follow signs for Express Parking). These spaces are designated for blue badge holders and are charged at the standard parking rate, (currently £6 a vehicle).
is there a height restriction barrier for the car park ?
I have a 4×4 with s roof box. I need to know I can park in the car park
Hi Nicola, I am not aware of any height restrictions at Alton Towers and I’m sure staff will be happy to direct you to the appropriate parking on the day of your visit.
Good tips and information on the parking, thank you very much!
Hi Gemma, thanks for the feedback on our tips for parking at Alton Towers, always good to hear:)
I think your parking charge for disabled blue badge holders is extortionate, what’s happened to the days of compassion.
Mr Edge (Disgusted)
Hi, thank you for your feedback regarding Disabled Parking Charges. Whilst topdogdays is independent of Alton Towers, (we just let you know how to enjoy a day out on a budget), I have to agree that it is shame that Alton Towers now charges for parking particularly for those with a disability:(
Oh no… disabled people have to pay for parking too?! Well about time, people with disabilities bang on about equal rights yet still demand free parking when attending the same attractions as every one else?! About time.. it should be the same for car parks. And no more parking on double yellow lines in town centres!
To be honest, I have to disagree as I firmly believe that large visitor attractions should not be charging guests with disabilities parking fees. Visitor attractions have a responsibility to ensure that guests receive the necessary facilities required to access the setting without adding charges for these facilities.
