Alton Towers; Early Ride Time

Previously Early Ride Time at Alton Towers offered select guests the chance to access the park one hour before it opened to the public. With a number of rides & attractions open each day, this offered passholders, hotel guests and ticket holders who booked directly online with Alton Towers, a great way to get ahead of the queues.  However Alton Towers have just announced changes to Early Ride Time that are set to impact upon guests during the 2018 season.

We understand that Early Ride Time will now operate from 9.30am each day offering guests just 30 minutes, (rather than previously a full 60 minutes), access to rides & attractions before the park opens to the public.  This will clearly impact upon the number of rides guests can achieve early on in the day particularly as eligible attractions are often spaced out within the park.  The other significant change to the Early Ride Time is that this perk will now only be available to Merlin Passholders and Resort Hotel guests and will no longer be an option for ticket holders when booking online.  This is a significant loss for day visitors to the park that previously could access this perk if they arrived early enough in the day.

The good news is that Alton Towers have agreed to include their latest attraction for 2018 The Wicker Man within the eligible rides under Early Ride Time.  So for those planning a short break to the resort or in possession of a Merlin Pass, you’ll be able to get this one under your belt before the park open for the day.  As this latest attraction is undoubtedly going to be popular this season, this added extra is a bonus for those that can still take advantage.

Extend you visit with Alton Towers Holidays that includes accommodation, breakfast, 2 days for 1 park entry, free parking plus Early Ride Time.

Alton Towers 2018; Staggered Opening Times

Alton Towers have also announced that opening times for rides & attractions at the park are set to be staggered. We understand that as the park opens at 10am only X-Sector, (The Smiler, Enterprise & Oblivion), CBeebies Land and Mutiny Bay, (Marauder’s Mayhem & Heave Ho!) will open.  The Dark Forest, (Rita, Thirteen), Cloud Cuckoo Land, Sharkbait Reef SEA LIFE, Hex, Battle Galleons & Runaway Mine Train & Forbidden Valley are set to open by 11am.

On busy days at the park, this change would mean that visitors will now have limited choices available to them.  Previously guests have been able to access harder-to-get-to areas of the park to enjoy rides away from the queues.  Now guests will have a more managed experience with potentially larger queues for those rides opening earlier in the day.
