Avenue Verte; London to Paris Day 8
It’s over! We did it! What a wonderful sense of achievement.
When we first came up with the Avenue Verte plan, it seemed an opportunity to try something different, something active, something we could achieve as a group…all on a budget of course!
It has ticked all these boxes & more. That we took on the elements, (I know it’s not quite the Antarctic but that rain was cold), pooled expertise & resources, (yes, that was me that found McDonald’s) to undertake the Avenue Verte challenge.
This last stretch took us along the banks of the River Seine offering a traffic free route into the heart of Paris. As we approached the city, I’d have to say the signage was pretty ropey and even our trusted garmin was struggling to follow the Avenue Verte route.
Our last few miles were on busy Parisian roads & I’d have to stress you’d need very cycle savvy children to feel confident in undertaking this with the family.
As we turned the final corner into bustling Notre Dame, it was incredible to feel we really had cycled to Paris……1 almost pro cyclist, 1 JOGLE veteran, 3 children of varying abilities & 1 cyclist with balance issues.
It took us 8 days of cycling to undertake the Avenue Verte London to Paris…and 2 hours 15 minutes to return by Eurostar!
I have to say I’m glad to be back.
